Every hands-on profession depends on what practitioners perceive — what they see, feel, ask and notice. Yet while every other instrument in healthcare is calibrated, maintained and quality-assured, the human instrument is left to develop by accident. The result is visible in the research literature, where hands-on assessment has a persistent credibility problem, and in practice, where skilled perception is either over-trusted or dismissed altogether.

Built on eight years of doctoral research in clinical biomechanics and measurement science — including comparison of skilled manual assessment against laboratory motion analysis — HODA-A™ treats the practitioner as a measurement instrument: one that can be understood, stabilised, calibrated and refined. Its central argument: before we test reliability, we must stabilise the instrument.
