In Level 1 you learned that you are the measurement instrument. Level 2 is where that instrument goes to work under real clinical conditions, with your findings observed, compared and tested in the room.
Why this level exists
Calibration on its own does not survive a clinic day.
Level 1 revealed something most clinicians are never taught: that the person carrying out the assessment is part of the measurement.
But a calibrated instrument still has to perform in a real room, on a real day, with a real patient in front of you. Pressure varies. Positioning changes. Attention drifts. Expectation creeps in. And what felt clear on Monday reads differently on Thursday.
HODA-A™ Level 2 exists to address that. Not by adding technique, but by controlling the conditions under which your findings are produced.
This is where HODA-A™ becomes measurement science in practice.
Before you read further
This is not a technique course.
You will not learn new palpation methods here, and you will not be handed more tools. Level 2 refines how the system you already have produces, tests and stabilises hands-on data when the room is real and the day is long.

What you will be able to do

Separate signal from noise
Distinguish clinical signal from perceptual noise, and know which one you are acting on.
Hold calibration under load
Apply calibrated contact under real clinical conditions, including fatigue, time pressure and a full list.
Standardise your variables
Bring consistency to placement, pressure and contact so the same assessment means the same thing twice.
Read your web of determinants
Recognise how attention, expectation, fatigue and environment shape what you find, and correct for them.
Test and retest a finding
Check whether a finding holds, rather than assuming it does because it felt convincing.
Compare with structure
Use structured comparison against another clinician to build genuine pattern awareness.
Reason defensibly
Translate sensation into clinical reasoning you can explain, evidence and stand behind.

The framework, fully integrated

In Level 2 the whole HODA-A™ framework comes together. What you experienced in Level 1 becomes a structured model you can name, apply and teach from. This is not new theory. It is the architecture underneath the perception you have already built.
Sensorimotor Memory Stimulation
Every body you have touched and every course you have taken is held in your system, and all of it enters the room with you.
Sensory Cross-Modal Judgement & Plasticity
How information from different senses is weighed against itself, and how that weighting can be trained.
Sensory Stimulation
What you present to your own system, and how deliberately you present it.

Active touch, exploratory procedures, and the modulation of force to position that underpins hands-on assessment.

Three days face to face
The Clinical Signal Lab
Three days in one room, in a group of eight to twelve, with Dr Jo Abbott. This is where calibration meets reality.
Over the three days you will:
- Refine pressure and contact consistency, with correction in the moment
- Test a finding across repeated assessments and watch what happens to it
- Compare your results directly against another clinician’s
- Identify signal and artefact in real time, not in retrospect
- Work under deliberately varied conditions, so you meet your own drift
- Receive direct observation, feedback and correction throughout
Your work will be observed, challenged and refined. This is not supervised practice. It is calibration under pressure, which is the only place you find out what your instrument actually does.
Groups stay between eight and twelve. That is a standards decision, not a marketing one.
Around the room
Eight guided hours online, either side of the three days.
Guided preparation
Structured online preparation completed before you travel, so nobody arrives cold and no part of day one is spent laying foundations. Completion is a condition of attendance, because one unprepared participant costs the whole group a session.
Guided integration
What changes in a lab does not automatically survive the return to clinic. Four guided hours put the work into your own caseload, with structured reflection, signal consistency tasks and your final practical integration demonstration.

Why three days in one room
Consistency cannot be assessed remotely, and it cannot be rushed.
Reliable hands-on data needs four things: repeated exposure, controlled variation, another pair of hands to compare against, and someone watching closely enough to tell you what you cannot see in yourself.
Only the first of those can be done alone. The rest need a room, a group and time. One day would let you glimpse your own variability. Three days is what it takes to work with it.
This is not about speed. It is about stability under real conditions.
Assessment and standards
Certification means something here.
Level 2 certification requires:
- Completion of the guided online preparation before attending
- Full participation in the three-day Clinical Signal Lab
- Applied module integration tasks
- Signal consistency reflections from your own caseload
- A final practical integration demonstration
This is not about passing. It is about reducing your error and knowing where your own drift lives.
Why this matters now
Healthcare is no longer asking what you do. It is asking how you know.
If your hands generate data, three questions follow:
- Can you reproduce it?
- Can you compare it?
- Can you explain it?
Level 2 gives you the structure to answer all three. Without it, variability persists quietly, over-interpretation grows, and confidence stays fragile in exactly the moments it matters most.
Six months from now you can either still be questioning your own findings, or be generating structured, defensible clinical data. The difference is not experience. It is training.
