Referred to in this Agreement as “the Coach”, “you” or “your”.
Together, the parties are referred to as “the Parties.”
1. Purpose of this Agreement
1.1 This Agreement sets out the terms under which the Coach may describe, promote and deliver support relating to the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme, including use of approved brand wording, limited use of intellectual property, participant communication, outcome-data handling, and public-facing website or marketing material.
1.2 The purpose of this Agreement is to protect:
-
the integrity of the Back Pain Systems™ brand;
-
the intellectual property and methodology created by Dr Jo Abbott;
-
participant safety and clarity;
-
accurate representation of the Coach’s role;
-
appropriate use of outcome data, testimonials, research claims and clinical language;
-
the distinction between the Coach’s own professional services and the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme.
1.3 This Agreement does not create an employment relationship, partnership, franchise, joint venture, agency relationship, ownership interest, clinical-directorship relationship, or transfer of intellectual property unless expressly stated in writing.
2. Definitions
For the purposes of this Agreement:
“Back Pain Systems™” means the brand, business, clinical model, educational ecosystem, digital app ecosystem, programme materials, language, frameworks, methods, content and related intellectual property developed by Dr Jo Abbott.
“Back Pain Systems RESET™” / “BPS RESET™” / “RESET™” means the structured back pain recovery pathway created by Dr Jo Abbott and delivered through the Back Pain Systems™ App and associated materials.
“RESET Coach™” means a coach who has been authorised, trained or is in training to support participants using the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme within the Coach’s professional scope of practice and in accordance with the programme structure prescribed by Dr Jo Abbott.
“Programme Materials” means all videos, audio recordings, written content, app content, questionnaires, graphics, diagrams, presentations, scripts, protocols, exercises, stages, phase names, handouts, clinical forms, website copy, visual assets, logos, frameworks, teaching materials and any other materials created by or on behalf of Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™.
“Approved Wording” means wording that has been expressly approved in writing by Dr Jo Abbott for use by the Coach on websites, social media, email signatures, business cards, directories, brochures, presentations, forms, public profiles or participant communications.
“Participant” means any person who engages with, enquires about, purchases, applies for, or participates in the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme through or with support from the Coach.
“Confidential Information” means any non-public information relating to Back Pain Systems™, RESET™, Dr Jo Abbott’s methods, clinical frameworks, business model, pricing, participant data, app content, coach training content, commercial strategy, research plans, unpublished data, or future programme development.
“Outcome Data” means participant information relating to pain, function, daily activity, work participation, wellbeing, progress, adherence, survey responses, clinical measures or follow-up responses.
3. Authorised Role of the Coach
3.1 Subject to compliance with this Agreement, the Coach may describe themselves as an authorised RESET Coach™or other title approved in writing by Dr Jo Abbott.
3.2 The Coach’s role is to support participants in applying the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme as prescribed inside the Back Pain Systems™ App and associated authorised materials.
3.3 The Coach may support participants with matters such as:

understanding how to access and use the Back Pain Systems™ App;
-
setting up appropriate starting positions;
-
supporting safe and accurate execution of RESET™ activities;
-
encouraging consistency, confidence and adherence;
-
helping participants follow the sequence, structure and intention of the RESET™ pathway;
-
observing and discussing participant responses within the Coach’s professional scope;
-
signposting participants to Dr Jo Abbott, their GP, physiotherapist or another appropriate healthcare professional where needed.
3.4 Unless expressly agreed in writing, the Coach must not present themselves as:
-
the founder of Back Pain Systems™;
-
the founder of RESET™;
-
a co-founder of Back Pain Systems™ or RESET™;
-
an owner of Back Pain Systems™, RESET™ or any associated methodology;
-
a clinical director of Back Pain Systems™;
-
the creator of the RESET™ programme;
-
a person authorised to modify, certify, license, franchise, sell, teach or repackage RESET™ independently;
-
a representative authorised to bind Dr Jo Abbott or Back Pain Systems™ contractually.
3.5 The Coach acknowledges that the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme is created, owned and controlled by Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™.
4. Approved Titles and Public Descriptions
4.1 The Coach may only use titles approved in writing by Dr Jo Abbott.
4.2 Approved title options may include, where applicable:

RESET Coach™;
-
Authorised RESET Coach™;
-
RESET Coach™ in Training;
-
Lead Trainer, RESET Coach™ Network;
-
Authorised Training Partner, RESET Coach™ Network;
-

4.3 The Coach must not create new titles, role descriptions or public-facing designations using the words RESET™, Back Pain Systems™, BPS RESET™, RESET Coach™ or any confusingly similar wording without written approval.
4.4 The Coach must use only the current approved terminology and must update their website, social media profiles, email signatures, business cards, forms or public-facing material if Dr Jo Abbott reasonably requires updated wording.
5. Intellectual Property Ownership
5.1 The Coach acknowledges and agrees that all intellectual property rights in Back Pain Systems™, BPS RESET™, RESET™, RESET Coach™, the Back Pain Systems™ App, Programme Materials, frameworks, methods, clinical models, wording, educational content, app content, research materials, logos, trade names, domain-related copy, visual identity, business systems and associated assets belong to Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™ or its licensors.
5.2 Nothing in this Agreement transfers ownership of any intellectual property to the Coach.
5.3 The Coach must not claim, imply, register, seek to register, challenge, copy, adapt, commercialise, sublicense, assign, reproduce, teach, rebrand, reverse-engineer, imitate or derive competing material from any Back Pain Systems™ intellectual property without express written permission.
5.4 The Coach must not register any business name, domain name, social media handle, trade mark, company, product, service, programme or course name that uses or is confusingly similar to:
5.5 Any goodwill arising from the Coach’s permitted use of Back Pain Systems™ names, marks, titles or materials shall accrue to Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™.
6. Limited Licence to Use Approved Brand Assets
6.1 Subject to this Agreement, Dr Jo Abbott grants the Coach a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use approved Back Pain Systems™ / RESET™ wording, marks and materials solely for the purpose of accurately describing the Coach’s authorised role in supporting participants through the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme.
6.2 This licence does not permit the Coach to:
-
reproduce app content outside the Back Pain Systems™ App;
-
create derivative courses, programmes, memberships or training products;
-
sell RESET™ as the Coach’s own programme;
-
teach RESET™ methodology to other professionals unless expressly authorised;
-
issue certificates or credentials relating to RESET™ or Back Pain Systems™;
-
use Dr Jo Abbott’s name or likeness as an endorsement beyond approved wording;
-
alter, crop, recolour, distort or modify logos or brand assets;
-
use brand assets in a way that damages, weakens or misrepresents the brand.
6.3 Dr Jo Abbott may withdraw or amend this licence at any time if the Coach breaches this Agreement, misrepresents the programme, creates clinical or reputational risk, or uses the brand in a manner not approved.
7. Website, Marketing and Public Communications
7.1 The Coach must submit all website copy, landing pages, social media bios, email signature wording, business-card wording, brochures, event descriptions, press releases, podcast descriptions, webinar descriptions, participant-facing forms and paid advertising copy that refers to Back Pain Systems™, RESET™, BPS RESET™, RESET Coach™ or Dr Jo Abbott for written approval before publication.
7.2 The Coach must not publish, distribute, display or promote any public-facing content referring to Back Pain Systems™, RESET™, BPS RESET™, RESET Coach™ or Dr Jo Abbott until written approval has been given.
7.3 The Coach must send final website copy to Dr Jo Abbott for sign-off before publication.
7.4 The Coach must clearly distinguish between:
-
the Coach’s own professional services, clinic, business, practice, coaching, treatment or advice; and
-
the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme created and owned by Dr Jo Abbott.
7.5 The Coach must not imply that their own business, website, programme, treatment method, clinic service or professional opinion is owned, operated, endorsed or clinically supervised by Dr Jo Abbott unless expressly agreed in writing.
7.6 The Coach must not use wording that implies guaranteed results, cures, fixes, medical claims, ACC endorsement, insurer approval, official government recognition, or clinical superiority unless the precise wording has been approved in writing and is supported by appropriate evidence.
7.7 The Coach must promptly amend or remove any content that Dr Jo Abbott reasonably considers inaccurate, misleading, non-compliant, brand-damaging, clinically unsafe, legally risky or inconsistent with the programme.
8. Required Intellectual Property Notice
8.1 The Coach must display the following notice clearly on any webpage, brochure, form, landing page or participant-facing material that refers to Back Pain Systems RESET™:
Back Pain Systems™, BPS RESET™, RESET™, RESET Coach™ and associated programme materials are trademarks, methodologies and intellectual property of Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™. is authorised to support participants through the RESET Coach™ pathway and may not reproduce, adapt, teach, license, rebrand or modify the RESET™ programme except with written permission from Dr Jo Abbott.
8.2 Dr Jo Abbott may reasonably require updated IP wording from time to time.
9. Programme Integrity and Non-Modification
9.1 The Coach must deliver support in a way that preserves the structure, order, language, intention and integrity of the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme.
9.2 The Coach must not:
-
change the sequence of the RESET™ pathway;
-
rename, reframe or restructure programme phases without approval;
-
add unapproved exercises, treatment methods, protocols or clinical claims to RESET™ and present them as part of RESET™;
-
remove required programme elements;
-
dilute, modernise, reinterpret or replace RESET™ methods;
-
combine RESET™ with another branded system in a way that suggests co-ownership or equivalence;
-
create an alternative RESET™ manual, workbook, online course, challenge, app pathway or certification;
-
teach RESET™ methods to other professionals unless authorised in writing.
9.3 The Coach may use their own professional judgement within their scope of practice to support participant safety, but must not present any adaptation as an authorised change to the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme unless approved by Dr Jo Abbott.
10. Clinical Scope and Participant Safety
10.1 The Coach is responsible for working within their own professional qualifications, registration status, insurance cover, local legal requirements and scope of practice.
10.2 The Coach is responsible for obtaining any professional indemnity, public liability or other insurance required to provide their own services.
10.3 The Coach must not present Dr Jo Abbott as clinically responsible for the Coach’s own professional services, clinical decisions, advice, treatment, hands-on work, assessment, screening, emergency management or participant communications unless a separate written clinical-governance agreement is in place.
10.4 The Coach must advise participants that RESET™ is designed to complement, not replace, appropriate medical or allied-health care.
10.5 The Coach must refer or signpost participants to appropriate medical or allied-health support where symptoms, history, red flags, risk indicators or concerns fall outside the Coach’s professional scope.
10.6 The Coach must maintain clear records of their own participant interactions, advice, coaching sessions, referrals, safety concerns and communications in accordance with applicable professional and legal requirements.
11. Data Protection, Privacy and Participant Information
11.1 Each party must comply with applicable data protection, privacy, health-information and confidentiality laws in the jurisdictions relevant to their work.
11.2 Before collecting participant information, the Coach must provide clear privacy information explaining:
-
what information is collected;
-
why it is collected;
-
who controls or receives it;
-
where and how it is stored;
-
who has access to it;
-
whether it may be shared with Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™;
-
whether it may be used for programme evaluation, reporting, presentations, publication or research;
-
how participants may withdraw consent where applicable;
-
how participants may request access to or correction of their information.
11.3 Unless otherwise agreed in a separate data-processing or data-sharing agreement, the Coach is responsible for the lawful collection, storage, use, disclosure and protection of participant data collected through the Coach’s own website, forms, email, clinic systems, Google Forms, CRM, spreadsheets or other systems.
11.4 The Coach must not share identifiable participant information with Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™ unless:
-
the participant has given appropriate informed consent;
-
the sharing is lawful;
-
the purpose of sharing is clear;
-
appropriate security measures are in place;
-
any required data-processing, data-sharing or joint-controller terms have been agreed.
11.5 Outcome Data may only be used for evaluation, research, reports, funder discussions, presentations, case studies, publications or marketing if the participant has given appropriate consent and the data has been de-identified or anonymised where required.
11.6 The Coach must not state or imply that participant data will be used in research, funder submissions, ACC presentations, insurer presentations, clinical-body presentations, publications or reports unless this has been approved by Dr Jo Abbott and is supported by appropriate consent and governance arrangements.
11.7 The Coach must notify Dr Jo Abbott promptly if there is any actual or suspected breach, loss, unauthorised disclosure or misuse of participant data involving Back Pain Systems™, RESET™ or participants enrolled through a RESET™ pathway.
12. Consent Language and Participant Forms
12.1 The Coach must use only consent wording approved by Dr Jo Abbott when referring to Back Pain Systems™, RESET™, BPS RESET™, the RESET Coach™ pathway, outcome data, research, programme evaluation or follow-up.
12.2 Consent for programme participation should be separated from consent for research, publication, presentations, funder discussions, testimonials or marketing use unless otherwise legally reviewed and approved.
12.3 The Coach must not make optional research, publication, presentation or funder-use consent appear compulsory unless this has been legally reviewed and approved.
12.4 The Coach must keep a record of all participant consents obtained.
12.5 Participants must be informed that they may withdraw consent for certain uses of their data where applicable, without this affecting their access to usual care or support, subject to legal and practical limitations.
13. Testimonials, Case Studies and Research Claims
13.1 The Coach must not use participant testimonials, case studies, screenshots, before-and-after claims, clinical outcome claims, statistics, research claims, app screenshots, participant quotes or Dr Jo Abbott’s publications in relation to RESET™ without written approval.
13.2 Any testimonial or case study must have written participant consent and must not imply guaranteed results, typical results or clinical superiority unless evidence and legal review support that claim.
13.3 The Coach must not use unpublished data, internal pilot data, preliminary outcome data, participant survey results or research findings in marketing or public-facing material without written approval from Dr Jo Abbott.
13.4 The Coach must not state or imply that RESET™ is endorsed, funded, approved or recommended by ACC, insurers, regulators, government agencies, universities, clinical bodies or professional associations unless this is accurate, documented and approved in writing.
14. Confidentiality
14.1 The Coach must keep Confidential Information strictly confidential and must not disclose it to any third party except as required to perform authorised duties under this Agreement or as required by law.
14.2 Confidential Information must not be used to create, improve, market, teach or sell any competing or derivative product, programme, service, course, app, workshop, membership or certification.
14.3 The confidentiality obligations continue after this Agreement ends.
15. Non-Competition by Misuse of IP and Non-Circumvention
15.1 Nothing in this Agreement prevents the Coach from lawfully practising their own profession or offering their own existing services.
15.2 However, the Coach must not use Back Pain Systems™ intellectual property, confidential methods, programme structure, participant materials, business systems, brand language or training content to create, sell, promote or deliver a competing or derivative programme.
15.3 The Coach must not bypass Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™ by offering participants, professionals, organisations, funders or institutions an unauthorised version, adaptation or substitute of RESET™.
15.4 The Coach must not solicit or encourage participants, coaches, organisations or partners to leave the Back Pain Systems™ ecosystem for a competing product or unauthorised derivative service based on Back Pain Systems™ materials.
16. Directory Listing and Cross-Linking
16.1 Where approved, the Coach may be listed on the official Find a RESET Coach™ directory.
16.2 Directory inclusion is at the discretion of Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™ and may be withdrawn if the Coach breaches this Agreement, ceases to meet training requirements, fails to maintain professional standards, or creates clinical, reputational or legal risk.
16.3 The Coach may cross-link to the official Back Pain Systems™ / RESET Coach™ directory using approved wording.
16.4 The Coach must not imply that directory listing creates ownership, employment, partnership, franchise rights, exclusive territory or automatic entitlement to referrals.
17. Fees, Commercial Terms and Payments
17.1 Any fees, revenue-sharing, referral fees, coach-training fees, participant pricing, discounts, commission or commercial arrangements must be set out separately in writing.
17.2 Unless agreed otherwise, this Agreement does not grant the Coach any right to collect payment on behalf of Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™ or to sell access to the Back Pain Systems™ App outside authorised channels.
17.3 The Coach must not discount, bundle, resell or commercially package Back Pain Systems™ App access, RESET™ materials or RESET™ coaching offers without written approval.
18. Quality Control, Training and Compliance
18.1 The Coach must complete any training, onboarding, supervision, mentoring, CPD, calibration or quality-control process required by Dr Jo Abbott to remain authorised.
18.2 Dr Jo Abbott may reasonably request evidence of compliance with this Agreement, including website copy, marketing materials, participant forms, privacy wording, insurance, professional registration, training completion, and participant-facing communications.
18.3 The Coach must promptly correct any non-compliant wording, unsafe representation, brand misuse, data concern or unauthorised use of materials.
19. Term and Termination
19.1 This Agreement begins on the date signed by both Parties and continues unless terminated in accordance with this section.
19.2 Either party may terminate this Agreement by giving days’ written notice.
19.3 Dr Jo Abbott may terminate this Agreement immediately if the Coach:
-
misuses intellectual property;
-
misrepresents their role;
-
breaches confidentiality;
-
publishes unapproved content;
-
modifies, teaches, sells, reproduces or repackages RESET™ without permission;
-
creates clinical, legal, data-protection or reputational risk;
-
fails to maintain professional standards or insurance;
-
breaches participant privacy or consent requirements;
-
refuses to remove or amend non-compliant material;
-
acts in a way that may damage Back Pain Systems™, RESET™ or Dr Jo Abbott’s reputation.
19.4 On termination, the Coach must immediately:
-
stop using Back Pain Systems™, BPS RESET™, RESET™, RESET Coach™ and associated marks except where required for accurate historical reference and approved in writing;
-
remove or amend all public-facing wording that implies current authorisation;
-
stop using Programme Materials;
-
return, delete or destroy Confidential Information and Programme Materials where appropriate;
-
stop presenting themselves as an authorised RESET Coach™ or training partner;
-
comply with continuing confidentiality, data-protection and participant-care obligations.
20. Indemnity and Liability
20.1 The Coach is responsible for their own professional services, clinical decisions, participant communications, advice, treatment, business operations, website claims, data handling and legal compliance.
20.2 The Coach agrees to indemnify Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™ against losses, claims, damages, complaints, regulatory action, legal costs or reputational harm arising from:
-
the Coach’s breach of this Agreement;
-
unauthorised use of intellectual property;
-
misleading claims or unapproved marketing;
-
breach of privacy, consent or data-protection requirements;
-
negligent or unsafe professional practice;
-
participant complaints arising from the Coach’s own conduct;
-
unauthorised modification, teaching, sale or representation of RESET™.
20.3 Nothing in this Agreement excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
21. Dispute Resolution
21.1 The Parties agree to attempt to resolve any dispute in good faith through written discussion first.
21.2 If the dispute cannot be resolved informally, the Parties may agree to mediation before issuing legal proceedings, unless urgent injunctive or protective action is required to protect intellectual property, confidential information, data, participants or reputation.
22. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
22.1 This Agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
22.2 The courts of England and Wales shall have jurisdiction, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
22.3 Where the Coach operates outside the United Kingdom, the Coach remains responsible for complying with all applicable local laws, including professional, consumer, privacy, health-information, advertising and clinical-practice requirements in their own jurisdiction.
23. Entire Agreement
23.1 This Agreement forms the entire agreement between the Parties in relation to the subject matter and supersedes any prior informal discussions, emails, messages or assumptions unless expressly incorporated in writing.
23.2 Any amendment to this Agreement must be made in writing and signed or expressly approved by both Parties.
Schedule 1 — Approved Public Wording
The Coach may use the following wording only if approved by Dr Jo Abbott:
Short role wording
is an authorised RESET Coach™ supporting participants using the Back Pain Systems RESET™ programme developed by Dr Jo Abbott PhD.
Longer website wording
supports participants in applying the Back Pain Systems RESET™ pathway through the Back Pain Systems™ App. RESET™ was created by Dr Jo Abbott PhD and is a structured, phased programme designed to support people with persistent or recurring back pain through a systems-based, functional recovery approach. ’s role is to help participants apply the programme safely, accurately and consistently within their professional scope of practice.
Role boundary wording
RESET Coaches™ support the application of the programme as prescribed. They do not redesign, rebrand, reinterpret, independently modify or replace the Back Pain Systems RESET™ pathway.
IP notice
Back Pain Systems™, BPS RESET™, RESET™, RESET Coach™ and associated programme materials are trademarks, methodologies and intellectual property of Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™. is authorised to support participants through the RESET Coach™ pathway and may not reproduce, adapt, teach, license, rebrand or modify the RESET™ programme except with written permission from Dr Jo Abbott.
Schedule 2 — Prohibited Wording Unless Expressly Approved
The Coach must not use wording that suggests they are:

founder of RESET™;
-
co-founder of RESET™;
-
owner of RESET™;
-
creator of RESET™;
-
clinical director of RESET™;
-
official national director of RESET™;
-
exclusive provider of RESET™ in any territory;
-
authorised to certify RESET Coaches™;
-
authorised to train other professionals in RESET™ unless specifically agreed;
-
authorised to modify, license, franchise or resell RESET™;
-
providing RESET™ under direct clinical oversight from Dr Jo Abbott unless a separate clinical-governance agreement exists.
The Coach must not use claims such as:
-
“cures back pain”;
-
“fixes back pain”;
-
“guaranteed results”;
-
“ACC-approved” unless formally true and approved;
-
“insurance-approved” unless formally true and approved;
-
“clinically proven” unless the exact claim is evidenced and approved;
-
“official research trial” unless formally approved with appropriate governance.
Schedule 3 — Data and Consent Principles
The Coach agrees that:
-
Programme participation consent must be separated from optional research, publication, presentation or funder-use consent unless legally reviewed and approved.
-
Participants must know who is collecting their data, why it is being collected, where it is stored, who has access, and how it may be used.
-
Identifiable participant data must not be shared with Dr Jo Abbott / Back Pain Systems™ unless lawful, necessary, secure and supported by appropriate consent or other lawful basis.
-
Outcome data used for evaluation, research, reports, presentations or publications must be de-identified or anonymised where appropriate.
-
Testimonials, case studies, screenshots, outcome claims and participant quotes require separate written consent and written approval from Dr Jo Abbott before use.
-
Data must be stored securely and handled in accordance with applicable privacy and health-information laws in the Coach’s jurisdiction.
Schedule 4 — Coach Confirmation Checklist
Before publishing any page or public-facing material, the Coach confirms that:

I will use only approved wording for RESET™, Back Pain Systems™, BPS RESET™ and RESET Coach™.
-
I will not describe myself as founder, co-founder, owner, clinical director or creator of RESET™.
-
I will not modify, reproduce, sell, teach or repackage RESET™ outside the agreed pathway.
-
I will not use Dr Jo Abbott’s name, logo, testimonials, programme screenshots, app materials or research claims without written approval.
-
I will send final website copy to Dr Jo Abbott for sign-off before publication.
-
I will keep data consent, privacy policy, storage, access and participant communication compliant with relevant privacy and health-information requirements.
-
I will distinguish clearly between my own professional services and the Back Pain Systems™ programme.
-
I will add the required IP notice visibly on any RESET™ webpage or relevant participant-facing material.
-
I understand that my authorisation may be withdrawn if I breach this Agreement.
